TRAFFIC calming measures could be introduced on Atlas Street, in Clayton-le-Moors, to stop it being used as a rat run.

Lancashire Local - a new partnership between Lancashire County Council and Hyndburn Borough Council - has funding available for projects in the borough and is considering the measures.

At a meeting of the Clayton and Altham Area Council this week Altham ward councillor David Myles, also on the Lancashire Local panel, said: "There are some simple things that could be done to make a big difference. I am hoping to stop 'rat running' and bottle-necking at the traffic lights on Atlas Street.

"I'd also like to see the car park at the back of the shops up-graded. Then people might stop parking in front of the shops and traffic would be able to flow more freely."

Further developments will be brought back to a future meeting of the area council.
