I SAW a TV programme recently which exposed a social security cheat who was playing golf and trundling his golf clubs around after claiming he could not walk without crutches and it made me think.

This week I saw a man in Peel Street, Accrington, debating whether to cross the road.

He had a Zimmer frame and I was just on the point of offering my assistance when he picked the Zimmer frame up, held it chest high then ran across the road before putting the Zimmer frame down.

The other instance was a gentleman with a white stick coming down St James Street.

He seemed to be hesitant in his walk but suddenly recognised an acquaintance walking on the opposite side.

He immediately raised the stick to hail the other person.

Believe me, I had difficulty picking his features out.

I have changed my outlook on some people who supposedly less healthy than me.

FRANCIS CROSS, Eagle Street, Accrington.
