Brierfield looks just what it once was – a hard working industrial village.
Mills are still in evidence including the Smith and Nephew complex close to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. This wonderful building is now causing some debate as its future use is currently under discussion.
The early working environment was dominated by the Quaker Movement and at Marsden Cross on Walverden Road is a Meeting House built in 1760.
On the opposite side of the A56 and down below the railway, the canal and the M65 motorway is Quaker Bridge.
This two arched span dates to the 17th century and through it runs Pendle Water now relatively unpolluted and the haunt of trout, heron, dipper and kingfisher.
