Weekly clean-up squads to blitz Burnley litter

DEDICATED clean-up squads are to hit the streets of Burnley.

The council has teamed up with contractor Veolia to carry out weekly clean-ups of litter and fly-tipping on main roads, back streets, grassed areas and any other public areas where there is a serious problem that is causing an eyesore.

The deep clean squads will operate every Tuesday and Wednesday and will cover the whole of the borough.

The initiative will be funded from existing budgets using efficiency savings made by the council.

Councillor Charlie Briggs, the council’s executive member responsible for tackling anti-social behaviour, said: “People want the council to tackle litter and flytipping and clean up our borough.

“Burnley Council has a zero tolerance approach to the minority of people who don’t care and who think it’s all right to drop litter and dump rubbish.

“It isn’t, and we’re fining more and more of them either through fixed penalties or prosecuting them in court.”

is this the job the street cleaners are supposed to do round the town, but dont.
I've lost count how many times I spent waiting on the Council hotline for half an hour to get a cleaner up the street, & that's to clean up the shiyte the bin men leave on Thursday,

At last one local authority has realised that the amount of rubbish and litter has reached epidemic proportions. Let's hope Blackburn with Darwen Borough wake up too and Network Rail fulfil their obligations to keep tracksides rubbish free, though, again the rubbish has been dumped by thoughtless individuals. At the end of the day its us the people who need to learn some cleaner habits and stop throwing litter out of car windows, dumping rubbish everywhere, be responsible for clearing our own neighbourhoods, backalleys, factory premises, office car parks etc. The British have become a dirty nation and within that some ethnic minorities seem to have no pride in their neighbourhoods whatsoever. We are drowning in our own filth!

Why do we have to wait until the Election is in sight before the Liberal run Council decide to take action?
Answer - cos they are trying to buy our votes!
I bet the streets around Grodon Birtwistle are clean all year round

Rip off RAyzer you mean. Whatever intellect that can reside in a person has clearly been ripped off you quite some time ago.
