Tributes pour in after Accrington death crash horror

More than 200 bouquets, wreaths and children’s toys have been left at the scene of the Accrington town centre accident which claimed the lives of three people.

18-month-old Jayden Bloomer was in his pushchair when he was struck when a green Rover 45 mounted the pavement in Eastgate, opposite the junction with Water Street, at about 3pm on Tuesday.

89-year-old Alfred Ernest Wray, the driver of the car, also died following the smash. Mr Wray, who was also from Accrington and known as Ernest, is survived by a wife and two daughters.

Jayden's mum Jackie Bloomer, 30, died at Royal Preston Hospital on Friday night, three days after the incident.

Jackie’s husband left a poignant Valentine’s Day card for his wife at the scene of the accident yesterday.

Addressed “To my babe,” Mr Bloomer’s large card read: “I love you so much Jackie and always will. All my love, Chris. XXX.”

Another tribute read: “So sorry you’re gone Jackie, baby Jayden needed his mummy. R.I.P. Heaven’s gained another angel. Sleep Well.”

A tribute from Mayor of Accrington Paul Barton and Mayoress Sarah Barton read: “Thoughts are with you. So, so sad.”

Another, laid by Sharon and Charlie, said: “RIP baby Jayden. Another angel in God’s hands. Rest in peace little boy. Our thoughts are with you all.”

And another from Jayden’s grandparents said: “To our darling precious grandson Jayden, missing you already, you will be forever in our hearts.

“Sleep well darling, love you loads, hugs and kisses. Grandma and Granddad Bloomer.”

One woman who laid flowers at the scene said: “I didn’t know them personally, but I came because I was so touched.

“I work in a card shop in town and everybody’s been in buying little cards to put at the scene.

“It’s such a tragedy and it’s hit everyone hard.”

Family friend Adele Draper said: “Jayden was absolutely out of this world.

"He was a fantastic little boy who used to run his mum ragged. He was into everything.

“He was a proper boy’s boy and especially liked the Ben 10 cartoon series.

“They are a close-knit family and well liked by everyone.

"I grew up with Chris and I can’t imagine what he’s going through. It must be sheer misery and they don’t deserve it. “ On Thursday, Chris released a statement to thank people for their support and laying flowers at the scene of the accident.

He also thanked the police, emergency services and hospital staff for the professional manner they had dealt with the accident.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims in this crash and their families. What a terrible tragedy in any circumstances but for pedestrians to be injured brings it home that anyone who steps onto a road or pavement is vulnerable.
On this day many lives have been changed forever. Its just so sad.

This was a terrible incident and although there were people stunned and standing by the accident, there were those who attended to those involved before the emergency services arrived. I was there with another lady who tried to help Jayden, along with the Asian security man who contacted the 999 services and handed us his phone so that the ambulance service operator could give us as much advise as they could. I am aware of another lady who so bravely got into the car to give CPR to the elderly gentleman and although I didn't see what was happening with Jackie I was informed someone was helping her. The outcome has been devastating. God bless you for trying, I don't know who you are but take comfort in that we tried. My hopes and prayers are with you Jackie and your family and to the family of the driver.
