THE mother of Adam Rickwood was today set to call for a new coroner to be appointed for his second inquest at the High Court.
Adam Rickwood, 14, from Burnley, became the youngest person to die in custody in modern times when he hanged himself with his shoelaces at the Hassockfield Secure Training Centre in Consett, County Durham, in 2004.
Following a five-week inquest, a jury found that Adam had deliberately taken his own life.
But his mother, Carol Pounder, took the case to the High Court because the coroner had refused to rule on the legality of physical restraint methods used on Adam hours before his death.
She is requesting a new coroner for the fresh inquest after she says vital information was withheld from the jury by the coroner at the previous inquest.
Mrs Pounder said: “At the previous inquest the coroner didn’t tell the jury about the nose distraction technique which was unlawfully used on Adam hours before his death.
“We want another coroner for the next inquest, we don’t believe justice can be done with the same coroner.”

THERE WAS NO VICTIM in this case apart from Adam himself. So 'yes' I (as one of the 'lunatics') do care about what the victims of crime have to say. Adam's Mum is also a victim of this crime.
It seems the lunatics are trying to run the asylum again.
Can we hear what the victims of the persons crimes have to say? Do any of you lunatics have any feelings for the victims?
Don't you realise the judges are only giving a job to their mates in the legal profession, so we the tax payer, have to pay out for you lunatics to have your say. This women will be on legal aid(money from the tax payer), would she still pay the legal fees if she was not on legal aid? NO.
If the country was run by people like you, nobody would be in jail, they would all be let out. You would soon change your mind if you became a victim of crime then.
