The North West region’s air ambulance has issued an appeal to children and adults to take care when sledging after a spate of accidents has led to three people being airlifted to hospital.
In the last two weeks the emergency helicopter has been called to three incidents to airlift people who have suffered injuries.
Lynda Brislin, chief executive of North West Air Ambulance, said: "No-one wants to be a misery but although snow can be a huge amount of fun it can also be dangerous, so children and adults alike are being asked to take extra care.”
The charity has advised that when sledging people should choose their slopes carefully ensuring the safety of themselves and others and looking for any obstructions and that there is an adequate slow down area.
People are advised to use only properly manufactured sleds and wear appropriate clothing including the same sort of safety equipment used for other sports such as cycling - helmets, knee and elbow pads
