A PENDLE company has given one of London’s most famous landmarks a seasonal makeover.

Staff at Barnoldswick firm EightxFour built a special snow globe around the Eros statue in Piccadilly Circus as part of an advertising campaign.

The elaborate structure took engineers from the Long Ing Lane-based company two nights to install and will be in place at the world-famous landmark until January 5.

It is part of a campaign by outdoor advertising agency Clear Channel which sees posters for eight West End shows placed on panels around the Eros statue.

And bosses at EightxFour, the sister firm of Orbit Roofs and Staging, hope the exposure will raise their profile in the capital.

Managing director Carl Ryder said: “It might not have our name on it but it is still a boost for us.

“I think if people were interested they could find out what we do, so hopefully we will get some work on the back of it.”

With Orbit Roofs and Staging, Mr Ryder has made installations in London’s Leicester Square and Blackpool, and for stars including rapper Jay-Z and Morrissey.

However, the Eros snow globe, based on the souvenirs found in gift shops across the country, was one of the toughest jobs he has attempted.

He added: “It came about because a lot of London statues get boarded up at this time of year because of the New Year revellers.

“This is a much better idea so people can still see the statue but it was tough.

“The Eros is Grade I-listed and is insured for about £3million, so we had to be very careful.

“But I think the end result makes it all worthwhile. It looks fantastic.”
