THE MOTHER and Child monument in Blackburn town centre was covered in a mosquito net as part of a campaign to raise awareness about malaria.
Charity workers Karem Issa and Ushna Mughal raised more than £100 for the organisation, Malaria No More The members of the Faith Act Fellowship decided to cover the town centre statue in a net as the disease predomin-antly affects children under five and pregnant women.
Mr Issa said: “Malaria kills about a million people every year.
“Covering the statue in a mosquito net was a way of bringing the message closer to home that so many women and children around the world die of this disease.”
