THE most tense table was undoubtedly the one with staff from Simon Jersey sitting at it.
The corporate clothing company, based at Altham Business Park, had two entries in the Team of the Year category, making office banter in the run up to Friday night’s ceremony even livelier.
But while employees in the firm’s marketing set-up missed out, their colleagues in the account management team were victorious.
However, it was all good-natured fun, according to winning team manager Clair Wilkinson.
She said: “We really are one big team and we get on very well.
“I am sure the marketing team will be thrilled for us, just as we would have been thrilled for them.
“Winning this is a fantastic achievement and it shows how well we work together as a team.”
Our expert panel of judges was so impressed with teamwork at the 200-employee company that it was handed a brace of nominations, going up against Clayton-le-Moors-based scaffolders Mitchell’s.
In a year that saw many firms cut back, Simon Jersey staff managed to hold on to all their big clients, including car rental group AVIS, P&O Cruises, Intercontinental Hotels and Emirates Airlines, and even bring in new ones.
The four-strong account management team – Miss Wilkinson, Kelly Reid, Lee Francis and Andrew Upton – are in charge of the design, manufacture and delivery of the uniforms for more than a million people.
Managing director Chris Claydon-Butler said: “We work very hard at what we do and we put a lot of effort into our products, so winning this award is great.
“We are pleased because we have such a good relationship with our customers and this award reflects how well we work with them.”
