THE value of some inventions can be measured in thousands of pounds, but Precision Polymer Engineering (PPE) staff believe their breakthrough could be worth millions.
Their Detectaseal product has been three years in production and has attracted interest from some of the world’s leading food and drink companies.
Now the company, based at Greenbank Road, Blackburn, has been awarded a Lancashire Telegraph Business Award as the icing on the cake after years of hard work.
And the victory was all the sweeter after the firm was nominated for a clutch of our awards last year, but walked away empty-handed.
Head of HR Gary Rae said: “We are absolutely delighted with this, especially for all the people at the company who have worked so hard on the product, and especially after what happened last year.
“It is brilliant to get the biggest East Lancashire award to go with some of the national and international ones we have won.”
PPE makes hi-tech rubber seals for world-leading manufacturing companies in aerospace, energy and even Formula One.
Its Detectaseal is aimed at the world of food production and pharmaceuticals, where contamination can cost firms millions to clean up.
The device contains tiny amounts of metal, which do not affect the product but can be detected if they somehow contaminate the consumer product.
Friday night’s award is just reward for a company which prides itself on innovation.
