A FIRM which pulled itself from the brink of collapse and tripled its turnover was named Small Business of the Year.
Burnley Process Instruments UK Ltd (Pi) overcame tough times to become a major success.
And now it has received recognition for the amazing turnaround.
Bosses at Pi have forecasted a £1.1million turnover for this year alone, but say the transformation is all thanks to the hard work and dedication of employees.
Accepting the award, Mike Riding MD said: “It is fantastic to have this excellent recognition. It is great reward for the staff to know all their hard work has led to this successful year for us.
“If you do the right things when things get difficult in business, everything will come right. But you must not be scared in doing them. I think that’s the key to our success.”
The Burnley-based business was founded in 1998, and is now at the cutting edge of the H2O technology. The company currently exports its products to 25 countries around the world.
In 2007, Pi bosses were forced to refinance the business using loans from Michelin and Rosebud in a bid to secure its future.
And within a year Pi achieved a hard-earned reputation and started an extensive website which operates in four languages – French, English, Spanish and German.
Based in Billington Road, the company, which employs eight members of staff, now secures 40 per cent of its sales in the overseas market.
But locally the firm’s hi-tech analysers are used by Burnley’s St Peter’s Centre to ensure the right amount of chlorine goes into the pool.
The company is driven by research and development and staff have an average of two degrees between them.
