East Lancashire primary schools amongst best in country

TWO EAST Lancashire primary schools have been ranked among the top eight in the country.

Ramsbottom Stubbins Primary School was ranked the fourth best state primary in the school in the Sunday Times top 500 list.

And Laneshawbridge Primary came eight in the list, which is based on schools ability to produce top class SATs results year-on-year.

Both schools had managed to achieve a 100 per cent pass rate in English, Maths and Science for three consecutive years.

David Stephens, deputy head at Ramsbottom Stubbins, said the school was proud to be recognised.

“It is a fantastic achievement and we are very proud to be ranked fourth in the list.

“We have achieved our success through continuity of staff and teaching methods, everyone at the school works so hard and all the staff have played their part.”

Mr Stephens said that the school’s success was about more than just results.

He said: “We are delighted by the results but the schools is about more than just facts and figures.

“We place a large emphasis on pastoral activities and get the children involved in the community and make sure their education experience is as enjoyable and diverse as possible.”

Eileen Bleasdale, head teacher at Laneshawbridge Primary, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be eighth on the list.

“We have a fantastic group of staff, teachers, pupils and parents who have all helped and contributed.

“There is a great work ethic at the school and the curriculum is tailored and personalised to what the individual children need.”

The school is currently the focus of controversial plans, which will see it undergo a major £4 million rebuild in Emmott Lane, and pupil numbers increased by eight places in each year group.
