Petition against Haslingden alcoholic unit plan

PEOPLE in Haslingden protesting about plans to create an alcoholic facility in the town submitted a petition to the council.

On Monday Rossendale planners will consider an application to transform a large house in Dean Road into a specialist alcohol therapeutic facility.

But 26 residents who live in Helmcroft Court have united to campaign against the site, which would be run by Shardale Ltd.

The petition states:

* The facility would attract unwanted persons and an increased noise disturbance through the day and night.

* There is a fear of the crime rate and reduced safety and the proposal will have a cumulative impact on all residents and existing parking and traffic problems in the surrounding area would increase.

* It is an inappropriate location being so close to the elderly, children and public houses and would it would affect council tax banding.

* It would cause inadequate privacy for residents and inadequate access for emergency services.

* There are other more suitable properties as Dean Road is a residential street used by children to play.

Shardale, a company specialising in running services for recovering alcoholics, said the scheme would cater for 10 people.

Dale Mordlock, who is spearheading the plans, said a planning application for the same site had been refused earlier this year.

He has now reduced the number of prospective residents from 15 to 10.

Mr Mordlock said: “It is up to the council committee to make the decision.”
