Fast food war as KFC plans new Burnley store

FAST FOOD wars could be set to break out between KFC and McDonald’s if the fried chicken giant is given permission for a new restaurant.

Plans for a new Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet in Trafalgar Street, Burnley, have been submitted to the council.

The restaurant is planned for the former Car Village site, next to the existing McDonald’s restaurant on the street.

A transport survey has supported the plans, which are likely to go before the council’s development control committee, chaired by Coun Anne Kelly later this year.

If approved it could create around 30 new jobs, and would be the second KFC to open in Burnley, after the outlet in Colne Road.

Earlier this year bosses at the fast food giant revealed plans to invest £100 million in the creation of up to 300 new restaurants, with a particular focus on the north.

Martin Shuker, managing director of KFC UK & Ireland, said: “There aren’t many companies who can be so positive in this challenging environment so we are delighted to be able to announce this significant investment.

“This announcement is not just a credit crunch phenomenon for KFC – we have in fact been growing steadily for years by making sure we always listen to our customers and meet their needs.

“A truly successful business should provide customers with what they want when the economy is booming, as well as when times are tougher.”

If approved, the KFC outlet would be open from 10am until 11pm or midnight every day, and would provide parking for 14 cars.

im sure it would be a welcome change from the middle of the road quality, and presentation of the endless burgers that are available. i much preffer the large bucket of chicken, coleslaw, beans and 4 portions of chips with a big 1.5 ltr bottle of pepsi. omce me and my mate have scoffed that we chill out in the van listening to chris evans in the afternoon...PERFECT.

If it happens I hope it's better than the scaggy remnants of what's supposed to be chicken, at the Colne rd venue. the times I gone there for a takeaway, got home to find half the stuff missing, I always check now before I leave taking everything out of the bags to make sure it's right, Yeah thats me!! holding everyone up.

I can only echo the comment made by Mikeee47, the KFC up Duke Bar is pretty awful. Anything has to be better than it. Bring on the chicken!

How did people manage before these places sprung up? Did people have to actually cook food themselves?
