A BID to find a North West headquarters for the BNP in Burnley has been narrowed down to “five or six” premises.
Coun Derek Dawson, who sits on Burnley Council, was last month instructed by BNP national leader and new MEP Nick Griffin to scour the town and Padiham for a new party base.
It provoked fury from opposition councillors and an MP who said the move would “drag the town down”.
Now Coun Dawson has revealed the search is progressing.
He has submitted a list of five or six potential sites in Burnley and Padiham to Mr Griffin, who is due to begin work as an MEP soon.
Coun Dawson said: “I hope we will have a headquarters in the near future, but at the moment Mr Griffin is in Brussels signing on as an MEP.”
Coun Dawson said BNP bosses may also be scouring Carlisle for a base in the north of the North West region.
