Help plea to save historic hall in Tockholes

VOLUNTEERS are needed to form an action group to save Hollinshead Hall in Tockholes.

The hall, near to the A675, dates back centuries but has fallen into disrepair in recent years.

Part of it has been demolished, but a waterwell, said to be one of the finest in Lancashire, remains.

Local community police officer Chris Williams has become concerned with vandalism on the site.

He said: “It used to be a village hall going back a long time, but not much history of the hall is known. It’s a bit of a mystery. It is served by about seven streams and legend has it that the water has curative properties for eyes.

“Unfortunately, over the years Tockholes has grown and there are a lot more commuters. The hall has been forgotten about and fallen into obscurity.

“There are now problems of subsidence and mud, and vandals have damaged the roof.

“Because of all this, it’s been fenced off and it’s not easy to access for maintence.

“I’d hate to see it end up as ruins and be lost forever.

“It would be nice to get a group of interested people together and look after the building.”

Anybody interested in helping Chris is asked to email christos2k@yahoo.com.
