Hopes after Colne mum Julie’s marrow transplant

A MUM-of-two who has leukaemia has undergone a bone marrow transplant and is recovering in hospital after a matching donor was finally found.

Julie Patefield, 37, was diagnosed with the disease in September and friends and family launched The Help Julie campaign in a bid to find her a bone marrow match.

At the beginning of May a match was found in America by charity the Anthony Nolan Trust and, on May 13, she underwent the transplant.

Julie, of Castle Road, Colne, who has two daughters Jemima, seven, and Annabelle, three, was admitted to the Royal Manchester Infirmary two weeks ago.

She had chemotherapy in readiness for the transplant and is now in hospital, waiting to hear if the transplant was successful.

Her husband, Andrew, a firefighter in Burnley, said: “Julie is really poorly at the moment following all the treatment.

"We are hoping she will start to feel better in the next few weeks when the transplant will hopefully take effect.”
