THE councillor leading the campaign to make Barnoldswick the North’s first ‘Wi-Fi Town’ has responded to health fears about the scheme.
Last week residents and councillors raised concerns about possible health implications of setting up a wireless network via a portal in the town.
Coun Martin Bell said despite residents in Glastonbury, the UK’s first Wi-Fi town, campaigning against the scheme, he said a health risk is “unlikely.”
He said The World Health Organisation (WHO) has acknowledged that electromagnetic fields (EMFs) are influencing the environment, but not people.
