A COUNCIL is urging local residents not to let people into their homes to check their boiler unless an appointment has been pre-arranged through the authorities.

The warning comes after reports of people pretending to work for Pendle Council visiting homeowners to carry out work for cash.

Julie Whittaker, housing regeneration services manager, said: “People are visiting residents' homes pretending to represent Pendle Council.”

Councillor Sonia Robinson said contractors used by the council would never visit people's homes without an appointment.
