STUDENTS hit in the pocket over delays in payment of a grant have been given a financial boost by Blackburn College.
Following a payment delay from The Govern-ment’s Education Maintenance Allowance, the college has taken a proactive step to ensure help and support for their students.
Blackburn College has taken action by giving out £10 Tesco vouchers from its own finances, to alleviate potential financial problems for their students.
Ian Clinton, principal at Blackburn College, said: “This unfortunate issue is out of our hands but we hope that the vouchers will act as some kind of compensation for our students.
“The college empathises with the students who have been affected by the payment delay and we want to provide optimum support for our students at this frustrating time.
“We are committed to providing our students with unsurpassed levels of education and this shows our service doesn’t end there.”
Computer system problems at Liberata, the company processing the grants on behalf of the government and education providers, have led to a backlog.
