BURNLEY MP Kitty Ussher is urging schools in the town to get involved in a scheme that provides 11-year-olds with free maps.

Ordnance Survey’s (OS) Free maps for 11-year-olds scheme provides a free OS Explorer map to every pupil in Year 7, through their school.

All schools that take part will also receive teacher’s copies of the maps.

Over 703,000 maps were given out last year, through more than 6,900 schools in the UK.

All schools with Year 7 pupils are eligible to join the scheme.

Mrs Ussher is lending her support to the initiative and urging all eligible schools in Burnley to take part.

She said: “I think this is a great scheme, which will help raise awareness of local geography, and aspects of citizenship.

"I would encourage all eligible schools in my constituency to apply.”
