IMPROVED bus shelters are being put up around Rossendale.
After several bus users were told that stops from Bacup to Healey Corner would not get the new stops, County Coun Sean Serridge intervened.
A review and consultation is taking place so that local people can have their say on the location of the 64 new bus shelters.
Coun Serridge said: “They have some seating, lighting, a raised curb meaning wheelchairs and prams can be pushed straight on.
“They are much neater and brighter.
“With the old design, if it was raining, you couldn’t see if the buses were coming because they got all steamed up.
“Some of the current shelters, owned by Rossendale Borough Council are in an absolutely appalling state, and I’m delighted that the new shelters are now on their way.”

However, why not provide real-time bus timetable information on illuminated displays, similar to those in Warrington, (which clearly state the exact time the next buses are due from each stop), so that passengers can minimise waiting times for the Valley's erratic buses.
