Blackburn rooftop pair on burglary charge

Two men arrested after a seven-hour police stand-off on the roof of the Spar shop, New Chapel Street, Mill Hill, were remanded in custody by the town’s magistrates yesterday.

David Clegg, 25, of Francis Street, Blackburn, and Joseph Maxwell, 24, of Coleridge Street, Blackburn, were charged with burglary, criminal damage, and intimidating a witness following Monday’s incident.

The case has been transferred to Preston Crown Court.
