POLICE answering a street attack report found a man in a Blackburn street brandishing a knife.
Blackburn magistrates heard that when officers approached Patrick Robin McAmbley he produced a knife from his bag and put it on the floor.
McAmbley, 37, of Church Street, Church, pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed instrument.
He was committed on bail to Preston Crown Court for sentence after prosecutor Charlotte Crane detailed a recent case where a judge ruled that knife crimes were so serious they should be dealt with in the higher court.
Jonathan Taylor, defending, said despite the reports received by the police McAmbley denied brandishing the knife in a threatening way.
“He says he was attacked by the other man, who he knows, and tried to defend himself,” said Mr Taylor.
“At some stage his rucksack was kicked over and the knife fell out.
"He picked it up but then put it away.”
