Welcome to the new-look website for the Lancashire Telegraph.

If you are a regular visitor, then the site will seem a bit different and you may want to take time to explore the pages and get used to the new look and feel.

As part of its makeover, the website can now bring you a richer mix of pictures, audio and video to supplement the strengths of the Lancashire Telegraph in print.

And this is not the end - we are continuing to try to improve the site, so any constructive comment is appreciated.

Here are some of the major changes we've made:

* You now need to register to post your comments at the bottom of stories. Registering for the first time takes a few seconds and once you're signed in you can post comments on any story.

* The navigation of the site has been changed - the sections are now listed across the top of the page, rather than down the left-hand side.

* You will find weather, live traffic information and what's on information on every page of the website, either at the top or in the right-hand column.

* The family announcements - births, deaths and marriages - are now in a section called Announcements.

* Blogs and columns have moved into a section called Comment.

* Reader letters have moved from the News section to the Your East Lancs section.

* If you bookmarked the old site, or signed up for RSS feeds, you may need to redo it on the new website.

* There is a new section for parents called Families.

You may find that some other sections have moved, while others may not be working as you expect as we try to fix any bugs.

Please alert us to any problems or queries by posting your comments in the box below.

Alternatively, click here to email us or here to discuss the changes in our Forum.

It will take a bit of getting used to,but I must admit that it is a rather fetching improvement!
Not too sure about the orange banner though,as it does clash somewhat with the pale blue, but who am I to criticise?
Still a major upgrade, and I'm sure that everyone who comes on here will agree.
Well Done!

Not too sure on new layout yet...are we having problems already or are we not entirely up and running? Or is it a case that news from Darwen (and Chorley) is not newsworthy? I am having difficulty in connecting to Darwen / Chorley news, using the new horizontal taskbar.

If the new site was any slower I could travel to the LET office, pick up a paper and travel back home in less time than it takes a page to load.

It seems for a news site the amount of 'page' devoted to the news has diminished. We have little news and lots of surrounding 'junk'.

I have to say the colours are bloody awful. I feel sorry for anyone with poor eyesite as white on blue is a very poor choice.

Give me back the old site!

Nad, Rojales says...

Couple of bugs.

1) Why have a comments link at the end of a report when a comment cannot be posted?
2) When the comments link is 'clicked,' why am I directed to the begining of the report and not directly to the comments? ( If that is you can add a comment. See point 1 above)

Not everyone is on superfast broadband, and it's frustrating following links that don't exist. Here in Spain it's a little behind UK technology, and although I have (very expensive) broadband it can sometimes be like dial up!

Also I'm not impressed with the security word. Why have it?

Sorry but I don't like this new web page. I agree with the above comments.I also find it frustrating to find the familiar pages I read.As Harry said..If it's not broke then don't fix it.Nothing wrong with the old page.

New website is appallingly dificult to even read, the text size has got a lot smaller and the paragraphs narrower?? The other 2/3rds is all totally distracting adverts. I'll be reverting to the BBC for news, this just gives me a headache!

Bill Carson, Mill Hill says...
5:27pm Wed 25 Jun 08

Also, why are comments appearing duplicated??

MartonBlue, Darwen says...

I have to say it is awful, the page starts far to close to the left hand side, not everyone is using a flat screen yet.
When in a particular section you have to go back rather than clicking on the section on the side, such as looking at the Blackburn Rovers pages, to then look at Burnley pages you could just click on the link on the side of the page, now you either have to go back or click on sport again, not a good move.
I find you can't see as many stories on the front page, so you don't know if there are stories that you may have an interest in reading. I use this site mainly at work during my lunch break, I don't have the time to go searching every section to see any thing of interest.
It looks far too much like the Manchester Evening New site, which I dislike as well, as you have to search different pages.

To say this is poorly designed is an understatement, bring back the old pages

I have to say I don't like this, the font plays havock on your eyes, not sure if this will pass the disability regs? it is far tooo slow, got bored. the links from my email alerts dont work get server error Error: Undefined variable: ids

in /var/www/html/martin
i-tng/src/core/Site.
php at line 1500

cant even find the article i want to read about (that was in the email).

I am in the industry and would be hung drawn and quartered if i put a clients site live with so many issues.

Weekends are good for go live and testing by lots of people.

It needed to be redesigned but there are issues and speed is one of them, even the image at the top under new web site is not aligned,"find out more here" any of my team did that and they would be looking for another job, very basic design skill.

sorry but not good.

Aaaargh! It's like coming home to find that your house has been broken into and Linda Barker, Lawrence Llewelynn Bowen and Damien Hirst have redecorated your front room.

You've committed the cardinal sin, as far as comments go, of stacking people's contributions upwards in chronological order. Who on Earth starts reading at the bottom and continues upwards to follow a thread?

SG, Indiana says...
3:21am Sat 28 Jun 08

Oh dear. This really does look bad, doesn't it. I can understand the registration part of the site, but I fear that's all the 'webmasters' have thought about.

It's a classic 3 column design, and not a very good one at that. The old adage: If it ain't broke... etc.

Nad, Rojales says...

LET you've shot yourself in the foot. Please read bad points below...
(1) Comments are upside down. (last one should be last and not first. I think this would've been obvious) If this is the way you have to go, at least put the comments box at the end of the news article and not at the very bottom of the comments.

(2) When I've already read the news article and only want to read posted comments, why can I not go directly to comments instead of the report? There is a link box to click but it doesn't work.

(3) Why are the reports only two days old before they are removed? Are they no longer news or commentworthy after this time?

(3) It is very slow. It was slow before the 'new changes' but now it's a turn off.

(4) Too many links that don't link!!

It's been up and running for almost a week, and complaints or feedback have been made. Where is your response? are you listening, or is this thread just another PR excercise? Be very careful LET: don't make the same mistake as Gordon Brown by ignoring your public.

Thanks for all the constructive comments posted here.

We have been reading the comments here, on the forum, and via email, and responding in person, on the forum, or within the body of this story.

Just to update you, here are some of the requests we've made of our web programmers regarding points mentioned on this thread:

1. Comments to be displayed first-to-last not last-to-first.
2. Clicking on comments link to take you to the comments section of that article, rather than the start of the article
3. Easier-to-read display on the comments section

The speed of the site during this week was not helped by server problems so it's hard for us to gauge how much was done to the new design. Certainly it has worked a whole lot quicker in the last couple of days, both on my work and home computers, but if people are still having problems, please let us know.

Not much of the site navigation has moved around, but If you can't find a particular section or story, please ask and we will direct you.

Also, if there are broken links, please let us know and we can fix them.

Unimpressed as a professional in web design. The site is slow, the comments forms don't always appear and the general layout is poor. In particular the choice of pale grey text over a pale blue background is very bad for anyone with a visual impairment - have you considered SENDA compliance and accessibility standards?
The old site worked better than this and generated far more interaction. The number of comments I can see on the new site is a fraction of those on the old one. In particular the old site allowed registered users to post without having to perform the 'type what you see' stage. Now we have to register and perform this step. Hardly making the site user friendly. The old site needed speeding up, not this poor redeign.
The site seems to be more about maximising advertising exposure than genuine interaction with your readers.

Just tried to read the comments on the story of the Brierfield school drug dealer - they were there a few days ago but not now.

And why can we not comment on some court cases but not on others? I can see a reason for waiting until a verdict has been returned but after that why can we still not comment? Surely stories such as the convicted paedophile are valid topics for public debate. Indeed maybe your 'Campaigns' section should be looking at the scandalous number of non-custodial sentences and 'one last chance' reports from our local courts as drug dealers, paedophiles and knife-carriers walk free.

Just to update you on some more improvements made to the site today, specifically the comments facility.

1. It no longer says Comments (0) on stories on the index when you can't comment on that story.
2. Comments are now displayed from first-to-last rather than last=to-first again.
3. Comments are not italicised so should hopefully be easier to read.

Nad, Rojales says...

Improvements done are good PC, but the font still needs more clarity. May I suggest 1 or 2 points up on text size, and to do away with the pale blue background? If you want the 'speach bubble' design, (not a bad update) can we not just leave the background white and maybe just have a border in black to outline the text box. (bubble)

I Like the idea have having to register though; it's keeping a lot of idiots, that used to patronise this site soley to argue with themselves, or post offensive comments off. (Know what I mean)

PS Still don't like the security word idea. Por que?
Nad.

The LT website and forums are locked together in Seamonkey browser (and quite possibly Firebox, as Seamonkey is Firebox based). I am logged into the LT part, but not in the forums. I go to login the forums, and it says 'm logged in.

Quite a big bug, and very annoying.

Sorry LET but your times up. You obviously don't give a hoot what your clients want. ie. up to date feedback from 'Cockey cockerton' (What's he paid for?)
The wewbsite's still awkward, slow to non responsive, unnewsworthy, and above all there is little or no oportunity to comment on reports that NEED to be commented on. political correctness is on its way out or haven't you heard?. (sack the people/person who decides what should be posted and commented upon on this site; they are after all scraping the barrel)
To put it another way, over the last month or so this site has gone 'tits up,' and I suspect by your (LET) lack of action to rectify it, or address the complaints made, you're happy with that: OR, perhaps you don't percieve internet readers as a commercial comodity? IGNORE US AT YOUR PERIL!!
