Accrington town centre development unveiled

10:26am Tuesday 13th May 2008

A Multi-Million pound luxury development project which has transformed a derelict town centre district is set to be unveiled.

Developers says the 55 apartments on six floors will provide "an exciting alternative approach to modern lifestyle".

The scheme is at Scaitcliffe Lodge in Accrington, near Hyndburn Council's offices at Scaitcliffe House, Ormerod Street.

The former overgrown site has been landscaped and the derelict lodge redeveloped and restocked with fish, while the national cycle trail runs close by.

Improved lighting and landscaping has also taken place.

Future plans will see shops built, including a convenience store, and an office block.

The one and two-bedroom apartments are the latest development from Globe Enterprises, a partnership between Barnfield Developments, regeneration company Stuart Nevison and Hyndburn Council.

The consortium has previously undertaken regeneration projects including the nearby Globe Centre and the Superbowl and Vue Cinema complex off Hyndburn Road.

A Globe Enterprises spokesman said: "We have consistently invested time and effort to be a successful and growing business while benefiting the people of Accrington.

"While many developers have been throwing up overpriced apartments all over the country to cater for bulk investors, Waterside has been an expensive property to build, featuring first-class materials and design, with a view to selling directly to home owners."

The grand opening is on Saturday from 10am to 5pm when three show apartments will be available to view.

The apartments are on sale for between £89,950 and £142,950.
