Bacup victim’s skull was fractured

2:22pm Tuesday 13th May 2008

A BACUP man was left with a fractured skull after being attacked by a man who believed he had been chatting up his girlfriend.

The 32-year-old victim walked up The Rock, Bury, and spoke to two women outside Wilkinsons in the town centre between 3am and 4am on Saturday.

It is understood the man had asked the women if they were heading in the same direction as him, to see whether they would share the fare of a taxi.

Police said he then heard a man shout at him, claiming he had been chatting up his girlfriend.

The victim insisted he had not, but the next thing he remembered was waking up on the floor.

He crossed the road and got a taxi home to Bacup, but woke up later that morning feeling sick and unable to hear properly in one ear.

He was last night in Rochdale Infirmary being treated for a fractured skull.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, and the taxi driver who drove the victim home.

Call Bury CID on 0161 856 8162 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
