‘Hot weather’ burglar warning

3:37pm Monday 12th May 2008

POLICE are warning house-holders to be vigilant with security during the hot weather.

The most recent burglary was in Radcliffe Street, Haslingden, between 11.30pm on May 5 and 8.10am on May 6. Thieves got in through an insecure ground-floor win-dow and searched the rooms.

It is not yet known how much was stolen. PC Phil Buck, crime prevention officer, said: "There have been a spate of burglaries where people leave doors and windows insecure, partic-ularly in this warmer weather.

"If you have to have windows open, make sure they are not ones in unoccupied rooms on the ground floor or first-floor windows by flat roofs.

Keep doors locked even when you are inside the property.

"If people are doing gardening at the back of their house, they should lock the doors behind them."
