Burnley boy, 16, dies after M60 crash

A 16-year-old Burnley boy has died after being knocked down on the motorway.

At about 7.30pm on Sunday police were sent to junction 17 of the M60 and found the boy, who has not been named.

He was taken to Fairfield General hospital where he later died.

Police are appealing for witnesses and said it was currently unclear as to why he was on the motorway.

The boy was wearing a black hooded jumper with a red top underneath, black jogging bottoms and black trainers.

He was seen walking towards the motorway from the Bury New Road roundabout.

If anyone saw him on the roundabout or witnessed the collision on the motorway, should contact the road policing unit on 0161 856 1550.
