A TEENAGER from Blackburn is now celebrating after being named as finalist in the Lancashire leg of the prestigious Learning and Skills Council North West Learner Awards.

Romila Ashraf, who is 19, is one of three finalists in the category of Apprentice of the Year.

The winner will be announced at a glittering awards cere-mony to be held at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel near Blackburn on May 15 where TV presenter John Craven will be guest of honour.

Romila is carrying out an apprenticeship in business administr-ation at Enterprise4All in Blackburn, and studies at Training 2000 Ltd. She beat off applications from youn-gsters throughout the county to get to the final and be given the chance to win a £250 prize.

All the finalists will receive a cheque for £100.

The winner in each category could then be named North West Regional Winner in June, competing agai-nst winners from Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester and Greater Mersey-side.

The awards are held to recognise and reward excellence in learning, skills and achievement in individuals and orga-nisations.

They also develop links between local businesses and learning providers.
