Haslingden man had four knives in street

12:08pm Monday 5th May 2008

A KNIFEMAN found to have four weapons on him in a Haslingden street has been spared immediate jail.

Burnley magistrates heard Kyle Andrew Cook, 19, was arrested after a person flagged down police.

Officers found three knives in his trousers and when Cook was taken to the police station, they found another up his sleeve.

Cook, who had previous convictions for drugs and racially-aggravated public order offences, admitted possessing an article with a sharp pointed blade on Warner Street.

He was given 120 days in jail, suspended for 18 months, with the Think First programme. He must also pay £50 costs.

The bench told the defendant, of Blackburn Road, Haslingden, they did not know if he understood how close he came to jail.

Robin Phoenix, defending, said Cook had an inability to reason at some points.
