Fuel dries up and Asda's Chorley and Preston garages

Two Asda supermarket filling stations in Chorley and Preston were temporarily closed over the weekend due to a lack of fuel.
Motorists were unable to fill up at the Asda garage in Fulwood, Preston, on Saturday, at 9.30am and yesterday afternoon the garage forecourt at Asda Clayton Green, Chorley, was closed to motorists after the pumps dried up.
A spokesman said there was a "short term shortage" at the supermarket chain's Preston store but was unable to confirm any fuel shortage at the Chorley store.
She added that the problem at the Asda Fulwood store was not due to a shortage of fuel but due to an increase in the purchase of fuel.
Both petrol forecourts are now open as normal.
It comes as workers at Grangemouth oil refinery in Scotland started a 48-hour strike yesterday over plans to change its company pension.
The stoppage prompted widespread fears of fuel shortages and some filling stations in Scotland and northern England have experienced fuel panic buying at the forecourts.
