POLICE are warning the public to be vigilant of a postal scam that is being circulated in the Lancashire area.
Letters have been sent from someone claiming to be from an Asian investment company using the name DBS Capital Investment Ltd.
In the letters it is stated that someone with the same surname as the recipient has recently died leaving $12.5million in a Singapore Bank account and that the deceased has left no will or has no next of kin.
The letter-holder is then asked if they are willing to pose as the next of kin and receive the cash before the Singapore government claim it.
Contact details are then given which include a telephone number, fax number and an e-mail address.
The recipient is asked to respond to the letter but is told to keep it a secret.
Police are urging members of the public not to respond to the letter.
Officers said that if anyone receives a letter like this they should call DC Pete Denson at Burnley CID on 01282 425001.
