Police reassure Pendle residents after 'race attacks' claim

POLICE have spoken out to reassure residents after councillors claimed there had been a number of racist attacks on white residents.

Nelson and Brierfield councillors have called for a crisis meeting with police after claiming there had been a spate of racist attacks by Asian youths.

But police said there had only been three reported incidents in the past four to six weeks in Nelson and Brierfield, and that only one was being treated as a racist crime.

Officers said there was a racist attack on a teenager who was collecting money for charity in the Cloverhill area of Nelson.

Four men have been arrested in connection with that incident.

Officers said two attempted car jackings on pensioners' vehicles, which took place 20 minutes apart in Cuckstool Lane and Halifax Road on April 2, were not being treated as racist incidents.

A racist incident is where the motivation for the crime is race.

Inspector Russ Procter said: "There have been incidents where Asian offenders have targeted white persons, but I would say that not all these offences are race related.

"But we want to reassure residents that there are no specific Asian gangs going round attacking people that we know about. All the incidents have been isolated."

Labour councillor Asjad Mahmood said: "I'm deeply shocked and appalled by what seem to be racist attacks on white residents in Nelson and Brierfield.

"Enough is enough and I want the police to adopt a zero-tolerance approach to this issue." Coun Mohammed Iqbal clai-med: "A few Asian lads have been going around attacking property of residents who are white.

"Windows have been broken by people throwing stones.

"This has been happening for the past four to six weeks and it is becoming quite bad."

Inspector Procter said they were investigating Coun Iqbal's claims and were due to meet him to discuss them.

He added: "All violent crime offences in the area are thoroughly investigated and we have again seen a reduction in violent crime within Nelson this year."

At last we might be getting somewhere here it is not often that an asian himself will admit that the asian community in nelson are attacking white people.
We read it in the paper time and time again here in nelson and yet nothing is done about it well now lets get something done.
Maybe Nelsoner has something to say here because usually he wont have anything said about the asian community in this town.
Well done councillor Iqbal for fetching this to light wether anything comes of it we will have to see.

In the paper ?are you real .The pocal rag does what it is told and doesn't report any Asian attacks because of any backlash. The opposte wa yes ; i once reported one and the police told me to just keep away from the area ;which was really good because it was the bus station ??have you ever noticed with the evening paper that when they report gang attacks it's always youths .How can you ask for witnesses to come forward unless you say whether they are white or black ??

Well done to the two councillors for bringing this to the attention of the public. The fact they are asian is irrelevent - the law treats everyone the same and if caught they should be punished accordingly. I can expect the usual nitpickers and extremists to hijack this issue and blow it out of proportion. ALSO NOTE THAT LANCASHIRE POLICE HAVE A GOOD TRACK RECORD OF DEALING WITH THESE ISSUES AND HAVE RECIEVED NATIONAL COMMENDATIONS FOR DEALING WITH RACE AND HATE CRIMES. Whats more frustrating is that Pendle Council has invested significant funding into local groups like wheels within wheels, SCAF, and Bodies in Motion to work with these very young people - so what exactly have these organisations achieved with £000's and £000's of tax payers pounds? I think real problems lie here and this too needs to be seriously scrutinised. Example building bridges has received over £300,000 over the last four years to encourage "community cohesion" - what exactly has been achieved? Absolutely nothing, apart from creating more divisions and difference.

I say well done to the two councillors but now keep the pressure on all the agencies to take some action, its not just the job of the police. FUBAR

the car jackers obviously thought these were easy targets. they wouldn't target asian pensioners because they might know their parents or grandparents, and everyone knows an asian would rather die than give their car away! that doesn't mean they were racist.

Come on mr moron - not all asians know every other asian across Pendle. These were vulnerable people being targetted, i take it you know every other indigenious person across Pendle. Firstly fao "concerned resident" I would say I do actually allow things to be said about the asian community, re-read my previous posts please, I have myself criticed the community, what I dont like is when we get a bunch of illiterate, narrowmin
ded uneducated dimwits posting comments & then the likes of Councillor Tony Greaves throwing his 2 penny worth trying to tell us good things are happening in pendle & that the future is bright.

Smooth is right, what exactly is Building Bridges & the rest of the "mickey mouse" govt/tax consuming organisations doing...there is no community cohesion in pendle, we just have to look at the content of the posts that are put up on the likes of LET to see that there isn't. I dont think there is any cohesion from both sides of the community & there is a lot of ignorance from both sides.

Well done councillor Iqbal for bringing the issues to the fore & meeting with the locals Police. Lets hope we can rid the streets of all the nasty pieces of work out there whether black/white/asian yellow who cares. As long as Nelson becomes what it used to be like in the early - mid 80s when it was thriving socially & economically in the town and it was a nice place to live.

Nelson has the potential and the opportunities, but we need to get rid of the moneygrabbing useless dimwits, self elected reprobates from all communities to make nelson achieve its future glories. The lack of aspirations are a malaise set in place by the current council administration and its incompetent officers COME MAY 1ST PENDLE HAS A REAL CHANCE TO CHANGE AND SHAPE ITS FUTURE IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

can i say as a young British Asian born and brought up in Nelson, I really do admire the two Councillors for speaking up, most of us are law-abiding people in Nelson , what we need to do is unite behind Councilor Iqbal on this campaign, he seems to be the only senior politican talking some common sense, the police are doing a good job but they can't do it all on their own.

Nelsoner, Nelson says...
3:08pm Fri 11 Apr 08

I must agree Imran, many of the youth both white & asian are decent enough folks & the police are doing a good job, look how they raided the drugs den in Berekely St based on intelligence received from the Pendle Rise Shopping Centre last friday from members of the public. They cannot do it alone. Come on Mr Greaves, show some real backbone & community spirit and get your hands dirty by assisting the other agencies in preventing this sort of thing happening around here or maybe you dont really care as you dont live in the areas affected?

All the political parties are the same in essence but I must commend the 2 Labour councillors for speaking up against their own community. Not sure Nadeem Ahmed would speak out against his own whitefield ward in the fear that he may not be re-elected on the 1 May! Come on the rest of you sitting on all the fancy titled council execs, speak up like real leaders not play follow the leader and only ask "how high?" when Lord Greaves says "jump!" No wonder Mahboob Ahmed left with Saj Karim & Co, probably couldn't take orders & tow the Greaves' line for the rest of his days.

Make a change now people, lets stand together and hold people accountable, the likes of Building Bridges etc...maybe we need to take a stand as residents in order to aspire to better things as it's quite clear the council is NOT going to do anything...just have to look at nelson centre...they messed it up then David Foster has the cheek to say in an open Q&A session at the council chambers that you can't buy a pair of socks in Nelson...well if it wasn't for you silly councillors who foolishly had "bright" ideas..much the same as the whitefield regeneration partnership...been the same slum for the last 10 years!

Richard, as someone who has travelled the seven seas and seen the good, the bad and the ugly side of human nature, the situation in Nelson has improved because of the Polices approach to tackling hate and race crimes - don't get me wrong there is still alot to do, but they can't do everything alone. The amount of investment into Building Bridges and their useless and no impact work can put a fair number of police officers on our streets - until we change this funding merry go round for the Council officers and their community friends and stop them investing our tax payers money in wasteless project like wheels within wheels, only then can we start to see even more improvements. Come May 1 is a real opportunity to get rid of these back stabbing and parasite councillors and elect people who care about our town and its people. FUBAR

As a Council Tax payer who claims no rebate (& I am Asian) I would expect the Police to be doing their job effectively as some of the CT goes to them. But the likes of Pendle Council and other organisations need to be doing their job properly. We have had a lot of money thrown at Pendle Council by central Government such as Elevate, Sure Start, Building Schools For The Futre, Single Regenration Budget, Neighbourhood Renewal Fund, Community Cohesion funding and now we have the long awaited Working Neighbourhood Fund. Is there going to be any change in Pendle?? NO, NO & NO because we need to first change the political set-up at the Town Hall and make Officers within all organisations accountable and be able to justify their actions. How many times have you been fobbed off when you have contacted one of these organisations??

A sign of what is wrong with police force, mangaed for political correctness instead of facing the realities.

This is exactly what the Ousley Report, the Cantle report and the mahony report said - and political correctness still permeates the higher echelon clowns at Lancashire Police.

Why does it take a member of a community to state the facts that there may be a racist element to attacks on the propery and person of white community members, whilst the police deny this to be the case.

As Lord Ousley said in 2001 - the police are too dominated at the top level of mamnagement by the politically correct, which interferes with proper policing.

Seven years on , and the idiots are still there, afraid to speak the truth as known by everyone.

This is why they are a laughing stock in Blackburn.

Totally agree with you about the extremism funding, burnley & pendle is now being tarnished with the label that it has extremists, I have lived here all my life, I dont see any, I really dont..why squander £ on these organisations, instead get it spent on more bobbies on the beat & traffic cops to pull over all the uninsured/dangerous drivers, those carrying knives, drugs etc...pay for more prisoners so Judge Beverley Lunt can stark locking them up as opposed to just giving them community service!!! that is what we need to get rid of these nasty pieces of scum who think they control our streets, this is a problem with both asian & white youths, not just 1 & not the other, lets face facts & lets take action!

You are spot on robby on the social and economic decline of Nelson under the present administration but have to disagree on the conservative bit - you lot have as many useless conservative councillors who are out of touch with reality and the local populace and as for electing women, not a problem with that as long as those women who have the skills and the ability to do the job are given the opportunity. As for Nadeem, there is more debating ability in my left toe than him. Good to know we have a liberal at long last entering the deabte and as usual taking the level of debate to their low intellectual standings. Liberals have done more damage in Nelson in the last four years, then ever before. The decline in the standards of living, the increase in poverty and fact that Nelson is the number 1 for infant mortality and whitefield is in the top 5% nationally for unemployment, health inequalities and poor quality of life. So Resident get your facts correct and as for Nadeem, I repeat nice guy but no sense of right and direction - lacking the required backbone to make any difference. Am not a fan of the local politiicans, but I applaud the two for raising their concerns over such a serious issue. PENDLE CANNOT BE BETTER UNTIL THIS WEAK AND MONEY GRABBING ADMINISTRATION IS OUSTED. £12 MILLION OF NEIGHBOURGOOD RENEWAL MONEY HAS BEEN WASTED IN THE LAST 4 YEARS - ENOUGH TO TAKE EVERY PERSON OUT OF POVERTY IN NELSON AND COLNE. To Resident, It is not very often that we hear Nadeem Ahmed speak in the Council Chamber. Greaves, Whipp and Foster don't allow him to. As for the Lib Dems you had a Councillor Rasool remember him. He could not speak the language. Speak about Ali Zaman the missing Councillor. Speak about Rasib Khan who was put up as a candidate in Walverden ward, leaflets distributed, photo in the Nelson Leader as a local campaigner (he has never done any community work in his life) and I know his family extremely well. He then withdrew because he saw his future AS A LOSER. So get your facts straight. VOTE TORY 1ST MAY VOTE FOR A CHANGE. Remember what Saj Karim (your saviour to mankind i.e. Lib Dem saviour) stated when he defected. He said that the Lib Dems were a spent force and lacked direction. Tony what do you know about the future of public debate?? It is because of people like YOU that we find ourselves in a REAL BIG MESS!! When have you allowed public debate. Even my friend Mahboob told me this and he was IN YOUR EXECUTIVE. He told me the following (don't know if true):-
YOU ARE ELECTED FOR WATERSIDE BUT SIT ON A GROUP CALLED WHITEFIELD REGENERATION PARTNERSHIP BECAUSE YOU WANTED TO KEEP HIM OUT.
YOU WOULD NOT ALLOW HIM TO MAKE EXECUTIVE DECISIONS WHEN HE WAS PORTFOLIO HOLDER FOR PARKS & CEMETRIES.
ALLAN DAVIES IS THE FACE OF YOUR PARTY BUT YOU ARE THE BACKBONE AND YOU CLLR DAVIES ONLY SPEAKS YOUR WORDS. So really you are a dictator in the words of many. My advice is that we need to liberate the Town Hall from all dictators on the 1st of May SO VOTE CONSERVATIVE THE WINNING FORMULA

What a disgrace that you did not speak and condone the behaviour of vote rigging in Burnley by your liberal colleagues - were where your morals and ethics then Lord Greaves. As for calling your betters ignorant and illiterate that is you showing your true intellectual standing. The low illiteracy rate of young asian people is down to your funding incompetent community groups to provide support to them - have you seen the groups providing support to young asian people in Brierfield - it was funded by your council officers Speak to Brian Astin aka Penfold - to teach them to say "hello" to white people as they never spoke to them - what a ridiculous state of affairs. As for people impersonating, do you not do a show as cat weasel on saturdays at the Muni!!!! Nadeem is still lamenting about the loss of Saj Karim and currently half of his family is more than likely to vote Conservatives - come May 1st Pendle will be Blue.

Asian Lad I know geography is not your strong point but this is not Zimbabwe (or Pakistan) so you have this thing called freedom of speech and expression and you don't get beaten up for expressing your views - I know its a difficult concept to understand or conceptualise but happy to provide free on-line training on basics of democracy and the rights of citizenship - unlike what you are likely to get from your community groups (PPWA, ITHAAD, Bodies in Motion and Cybercafe) its all free. Glad to see Greaves has finally come out of the woodwork & pathetically attempted to defend his party & candidates.

As for you people saying get a job,a life & stop blogging, perhaps we have got all of that & are not blogging but simply putting our views across...we do after all live in a democracy.

Also Nelson Lad - I have actually spoken to the faces of both the Lib Dems & the Labour party activists..not bothered if they liked what I said or not..it was my opinion & I was entitled to it...we are not scared of speaking the truth & indeed we have done in public forums in the past..we are not in it for the £, we are not in it for the power or status as we are not that insecure or vain...we are doing it for pendle.

I have read the recent literature from the Lib Dem Focus leaflets...Afzal Anwar has lived in nelson all his life, no he has NOT, he came here in 1997...as for Rasib well what can I say, he is supposed to be a barrister, he needs to learn how to pronounce words of the English language before he attempts his next election campaign..maybe Greaves can give him an english lesson or two considering that he thinks we are all illiterate & uneducated. You BAFFOON I am not uneducated, unlike your previous 2 colleagues, Saj Karim may have been a solicitor but he got a 3rd class degree from Guildhall polytechnic...as for Mehboob Ahmed, well I dont even think he had a GCSE to his name..

Would love to meet, batman, robin, rough, smooth & anyone else who would like a constructive discussion as to how to improve the local area..Nelson is not a "spent" town it can be improved with determination & real hard work..it is the lib dems who are a "spent" force according to their former MEP! Just look at how Mehboob Ahmed was voted out by the whitefielders in their masses...hopefully that nice pleasant but lacking conviction of a young lad Nadeem will get voted out next. It's so bad with him that he not only gets dictated to by Greaves but also the elderley pakistani community of whitefield who are related to him or know him from somewhere along the line & are in it to eat the free food at the Lib Dem Committee room & have a social life for a few months...let's not be fooled by how local elections are fought anymore & vote tactically. As someone has said in 1 of the previous posts, vote for Cons if you think they are going to win in your ward or Lab if you think they are going to win..but do NOT vote the dictater's party.

Nelsoner and other change minded coleagues time for change is near and as pendled saviours we have to keep the people informed about the true state of affairs. Nelson can be improved by not only removing the administration but its cronies as well, including the self-elected and self-satisfying asian comunity leaders. The likes of PPWA and Building Bridges and SCAF, Bodies in Motion and wheels within wheels, are peddlars of difference and dividers of communities across Pendle. Their funding needs to be scrutinised and their governance needs to be carefully monitored. They are run by family members for their own monetary gains, sonsored by Lord Greaves and his incompetent officers - Mr Astin has wasted by giving £12 million over four years to these worthless organisations to keep their "traditonal asian friends" happy and of course get their votes at election time. If you look at the areas these organisations work in they are worse before they started their work, but level of funding has increased into their pockets. Am sure I will get some comments around being a racist, strange I am third generation muslim myself and funny want the same level of service and access to everything as everybody else in Pendle. These organisations are a parasite on the development of asian young people and others. Come May 1st lets make a wholesale change.

I am in favour of all the comments that people are leaving about the Political Parties but can you hold on a second Asjad did not wipe the Floor with Mahboob because if you recall he only won by about 150 Votes. There is a reason to this that the Labour Party send out a leaflet on the Eve of the Election and told lies that changed the voters minds and this is where they lost our. The Leaflet stated that the Lib Dems were lieing about the Grant Work on Lomeshaye Road and Westmoland Street but if you now go and look the blocks of houses Labour said the Lib Dems wouldnt do have been done.

150 people do NOT change their minds like that, especially not in Whitefield!!

Also lets look at actual figures in order to determine whether Asjad wiped the floor with Mehboob or not...Mehboob had a lead of around 350 votes in his previous successful election..he then lost to Asjad 4 years later by 150 votes..that means that Asjad turned the voting around by a total of around 500 votes or thereabouts..you have to remember he ensured that Mehboob lost his previous lead of 350, brought him to zero and then won by 150..simple maths mate...

As for Lomeshaye Rd,what has actually happened? Baldwins have done shoddy work throughout, the doors are cracking as you are well aware as you probably sit on the Regeneration Partnership Committee for that area, no? The roofs of the properties were leaking for a long duration of time & many houses were left without hot water...Baldwins & the Council in on it together lining their pockets perhaps whilst not concerned about the residents..

It's a bit like cricket you know coming back for second innings!! Cllr A Mahmood won the innnings with a lead of 146 votes SO TECHNICALLY SPEAKING THERE WAS A SWING OF 492 VOTES FROM THE LIBERAL PARTY TO THE LABOUR PARTY. However, I know Mahboob very well and I can tell you folks that the grass is definitely greener on the other (Tory) side. For one he gets to keep his close affiliation with saviour Saj Karim. He is also in close proximity to the prospective new MP for Pendle (Andrew Stephenson) and he has been to the House Of Commons several times. I do not know this guy but people tell me he is a real turncoat. He was a Labour member, then openly supported Rasjid Skinner (remember him??) in the parliamentary elections in 2001. Joined the Liberals soon after and now has joined the Conservatives. 007 has told me that his family members recently voted for that barrister Anwar to be the prospective parliamentary candidate for the Liberals but only a week earlier were tucking themselves into a Conservative party meal in Brierfield. As for not looking after the area, this can only be effectively done when the residents know that if it is not done then they will face a penalty of some sort, not rewarded in the form of regeneration grants..nelson as a whole is the pits because we have collectively let it go down the pan...

Nelson was a small but busy town in the 80s but it really has gone downhill...it is not all down to immigration or the lack of competence on the part of the councillors or the out of town shopping centres that have opened or the new younger generation being in a league of their own when it comes to criminality..it has happened due to a combination of factors and I am of the strong opinion that we if all pull together as residents of 1 town regardless of race/colour/creed/po
litical affiliation we can make things happen for this town.

Just look at Colne centre compared to nelson on a sat afternoon, its busier yet it has a smaller population...its a mick-take. Agree with everything being expressed and all that is left is put democracy into action - we have expressed our views, concerns, issues and even highlighted some positive ways forward - THE POLITIICIANS AND THE OFFICERS HAVE IGNORED THEM ALL.

Nelsoner you are right it is a decisive moment in Pendle - we stick with the usual clowns or we make the change - change requires action and that means using our vote for change on May 1st - lets not allow these buffoons to run our areas even further into decline. I do like the idea of getting together and taking people action to make change Nelsoner - let me know what you have in mind and you have my support.

It needs the people of nelson to have their say not left up to the Councillors.
LETS DO SOMETHING NOW.
Like nelson lad says there is not much left here.Where can you go on a weekend to take your children somewhere nice in there own town nowhere.

I couldn't agree with you. What we need to do is to vote the correct people in on 1 May. We don't want the same old clowns in Nelson who vote what everything LORD GREAVES TELLS THEM TO VOTE FOR. We require change and for that to happen we are going to have to be a catalyst for that. We all need to speak to family members, friends, neighbours to convince them to vote for the Labour and Tory candidates to bring about some balance in the Council. We have had 4 years of this Liberal administration and things have deteriorated from bad to worse. The only benefactors have been the Councillors many who receive big fat allowances (David Whipp £41 K per year), Sonia Robinson £18 K per year, Barnfield and Mr. Bannister from Boundary Mill. The average joe bloggs from Nelson is suffering. AND TO TOP IT UP THE LIBERALS HAVE CREATED A PARISH COUNCIL FOR NELSON & COLNE SO THAT THEY CAN GET THEIR CRONIES IN TO THE TOWN HALLS at the expense of our Council Tax. Good to hear from you mum of 4 and keep up the efforts. It would be good to meet people like Smooth, rough, batman, robin, Nelsoner, mehboobh and catwoman. We need to keep the momentum going!!

We are appalled at comments that the two Councillors Muhammed Iqbal and Asjad Mehmood have given. We today live in multi-cultural Britain which is very diverse yet we have Councillors who insinuate that Asians are racist towards the Whites. We need to hold these liars accountable for their actions and demand for their resignation from the council as they are misrepresentative of their constituents views.
I would like to point out that the person who claims to be Ex-Councillor Mehboob Ahmed is actually not him. I have asked Mehboob and he has assured me that he does not know anything about it.

Is it not the same as when leaders of the national political parties or people of different organisations oppose each others ideas??? Does that mean that Britain is in a mess because we have white politicians or other people opposing each other??

It is called being "different" & diverse in your opinions etc...Immy is right in what he says!

As for me, I disagree with what you say but defend to death your right to say it...is that not what freedom of speech in this country is based on??? I aint going to agree with fellow asians just because they are asian!! And as for my comments, I aint had a "go" at anyone in a personal capacity or come out with any "below the belt" remarks...I can agree to disagree with someone yet still be friends with them & talk to them in a humane way with respect & dignity accorded on both sides...

Agree with your views on defending the rights accorded to us in this great country of ours. Most of the genuine people have started a constructive debate on this site and if the politicians have any sense they will take notice of these, the present and the new ones after May 1st. What has also been highlighted that the ones with their personal attacks and slighting remarks have indicated their lack of intelligence and as a consequence lack of direction - if anything that should hasten change. The point with these comments is about empowering people with whats going on and give them an oportunity to comment on it - alot have done that but we will always be plagued by ones with their insulting and prejudicial views - hey what can i tell you thats democracy at its best and at times at its worst.

My husband eneded up in hospital after been attacked and dragged out of his car, this all happened round the corner from where i live and has anything been done No the police say sorry we didn't have him in custody, maybe the police should listen when they are been told yes you do! Was this a case of do we arrest any asians as we might get done for racism, what about my hubby who never hit anyone in his life, my son gets charged with assault because he helped his dad, the lad who assaulted my son got 25 hours community service wow! will find out tomorrow what my son gets, guaranteed he gets more.

Being an asian my self ive grown up with some and my god are they embarassing! Especially when they walk around with hoods on and music on phones lol. Well back to the topic I bet it was a bunch of youths who were bored, mind you I dont blame them. They have nothing to do in their spare time due to the council not investing in thing for them to do! It is a joke nowadays I think the police are very helpful pepople and I would be more than happy to submit intelligence to them AND NO I AINT NO SNITCH Just hate rotten rats who walk around the streets thinking they are the next tupac shakur or some blood or crip type gang members. As for Liberal Supporter from Nelson...what are you on about "you dont blame them" they must have been bored...when I was a kid we didnt have the facilities we do today yet we didnt go out & commit crime..boredom is no excuse for criminality...but as for the council not investing anything for them I must agree with you, Pendle has had about £114 million pounds since 1996...where has it gone?? Probably to create "made up" executive posts within the council & the like after which the remaining sums have been spent on a few new flower pots & stuff in nelson town centre and surrounding areas...I aint a politician, I aint a mathematician & I aint in Management but one thing I can tell you for certain...put me in charge of £114 million pound along with others on here who have posted constructive debate & Im sure we can do a much better job of regenerating the whole of Pendle not just nelson than half of the out of touch council leaders have done....I wouldnt contract Barnfield construction just because they are in with Stephen Barnes (Council Exec) or favour anyone..and when I say regenerate the whole of pendle that would include barlick & cravendale & earby, colne etc not just nelson & maybe brierfield which then creates divisions within the ethnic make ups of the borough!

I have been patiently reading this debate and the following is my humble opinion:

Asian 'councillors' don't know anything about politics more than a fish knows how to ride a bike. (I'm Asian, btw) Ive lived and grown up in Nelson all my life and have seen the town change from a thriving metropolitan hub to a pile of **** that no-one wants to associate themselves with (ask the kids that go to uni, their uni mates never know where Nelson is). When 'campaigning', it's always about 'Oh, I know your Dad and your Grandfather back home is a family friend' - which automatically makes them think you have a duty to give them your vote. Once elected, you don't see the toerags again, till polling day, next year. Local politics isnt about politics anymore, its about social status.

What we need is a straight-talking, no shhit-taking councillor who actually starts making changes. We've been around the 'we'll do this, n we'll do that' merry-go-round too many times. My dizziness is affecting my health. The biggest point I am trying to make is:

ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS!

Liberal Support can you inform us less politically inclined people exactly what has Councillor Nadeem achieved in his tenure so far. I refer you to the IMD statistics that show Whitefield is one of the shittest areas in all of lancashire - did councillor Nadeem contribute to this mess? You also happen to be a major area for infant mortality - has Councillor Nadeem raised this in Council chambers? Whitefield has one of the largest numbers of benefit claimants - has Councillor Nadeem raised this in Council meetings or with appropriate stakeholder? Whitefield ward is considered one of the worst in the country for quality of life. Taking al this into consideration would you say Councillor Nadeem is the saviour of Whitefield? I don't know about you, its not about which party wins, its about the calibre of the person representing their area and how they can influence and get resources and marshall the community to take some responsibility as well. If Mr NADEEM is construed as being dynamic by you and others, (and i have already outlined his record on serious issues), then whitefield deserves him for all its worth - **** begets **** as they say in nelson

To Liberal Supporter. It is a well known fact that Whitefield is in the worst 5% nationally. The Liberals have run Pendle Council for the last 4 years but what progress has there been?? No. 1 Market Square A BIG BIG FLOP. Only benefactors are Council staff. The ACE BUILDING IS DOOMED FOR FAILURE. Central Labour Government has invested millions in East Lancashire. Look at the Sure Starts, the new Schools to be built Pendle Vale to be opened in September. Marsden Heights to be built very soon after. New primary school in Nelson. BUT THIS LIBERAL ADMINISTRATION HAS LET THE PEOPLE OF PENDLE DOWN. It is time for a change and my opinion is that the Conservatives are a good option.

I dont think ive heard as much of a rubbish false statistic as of that whitefiled a small unheard of ward has been rated so poor nationally? I mean come on there are much worse areas of nelson than this. Every Street has recently seen some nice regeneration and lomeshaye road. But fair enough i do agree liberal did have a few mess ups in their time and like I mentioned earlier i am only voting because the opposition Tariq is a joke haha hes just too much for his own plate. As for conservatives who the hell are these SO CALLED SAVIOURS they are rubbish and always loose for a reason they arent saviours they will help to create this town even more disaster. Mind you most of the nobheads who constantly diss this area aint even from round here, we as residents love living around these areas they are safe(well for some) lively and so on. So get out of here with your rubbish talk about how poor this area is and so on, on the bright side look at the water factory on every street its being regenerated!

If you represent the majority perception of an areas that is classified as extremely poor I am not surprised which ever politician you elect takes advantage of the situation - no need to make an effort in doing their job because the local are happy with the slop we provide them with - . I don't disagree with you that some work has been done on a few of the houses, but its of such low quality that the builders are still laughing. JUST LOOK AT THE NUMBER OF PROBLEMS RESIDENCE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT AND STILL DOING SO. AS for comparing your area to others - FACT 1: PROSTITUTES ARE PROMINENT ON ST MARYS STREET; FACT 2: ALCOHOLICS AND DRUGGIES SEE WHITEFIED AS THEIR HAPPY PILL; FACT3: ITS STILL THE NUMBER ONE FOR FLY TIPPING FACT4: THE STREETS ARE FULL OF **** - LOOK AT THE ABANDONED MATTRESSES IN BACKSTREETS FACT 5: THE NUMBE ROF MUGGINGS BY DRUGGIES ARE UP. FACT6: MORTE YOUNG PEOPLE WITH A BIT OF SENSE ARE LEAVING THE AREA AND PRIVATE LANDLORDS ARE MOVING IN WITH THEIR TENANTS AND ALL THEIR BAGGAGE.

I don't care which **** party gets elected JUST MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO THE LIVES OF THE LOCALS - THEY DESERVE THAT. NOW IF YOUR HAPPY WITH YOUR SLOP LIBERAL SUPPORTER, YOUR ONE PERSON THE NEXT COUNCILLOR NEEDS TO WORRY ABOUT DON'T YOU THINK. ITS TRUE YOU CAN TAKE A PERSON OUT OF THE ****, BUT YOU CANT TAKE THE **** OUT OF THE PERSON.

BY THE WAY ITS GOOD TO KNOW ONE OF THE LOCAL PARTY HAS DECIDED TO POLICE THIS SITE - THEY MUST HAVE DRAWN LOTS RATHER THAN ON COMPETENCE.

What I would like to state that Nelson is in the dumps. FACT The Ethel Austin store in Pendle Rise Shopping Centre is probably going to close very soon as reported in this newspaper earlier in the week. So that will mean another large empty space in the shopping centre. FACT The newly opened Tesco has laid off approx. 40 members of staff only within a few weeks of opening!! FACT No. 1 Market Square has had TWO GRAND OPENINGS (probably at the expense of tax payers)and STILL THE SHOPS HAVE TO LET SIGNS 6 MONTHS ON. FACT:- THE FLAGSTONES OUTSIDE THIS NO. 1 MARKET SQUARE WERE CRACKED & UNEVEN WITHIN A FEW WEEKS OF OPENING DUE TO POOR WORKMANSHIP. FACT:- HOUSING GRANT WORK DONE ON LOMESHAYE ROAD / EVERY STREET AREA HAS BEEN DONE TO A VERY POOR QUALITY. THERE ARE NO QUALITY CONTROL CHECKS IN PLACE AND THE RESIDENTS I BELIEVE HAVE BEEN VERY UPSET. So you have 3 options to vote on 1 May. Vote N Ahmed and get stuffed as usual by the Liberals as their stronghold is Colne and Barlick. Vote M Tariq and I have been informed that he is a successful businessman that owns a lot of properties. OR DO LIKE ME AND VOTE FOR THE REAL CHANGE VOTE VICTORIA LANDRIAU (conservative)

So people wake up and choose people who represent you and your views and not the ones who do not care about their residents once elected you never see them until april time. Like in Bradley ward there are two main candidates both Asian which i do not have a problem with whatsoever. But Sakib the lab candidate a builder by profession has been a councillor before and is never to be seen after elections thats why he got voted out. Where as Jamil the lib demcandidat is a teacher locally so i feel he will be easily to ge hold off if i have problms. Whereas Sakib might be on a building site i Blackburn what am i supposed to do then. As a Labour voter all my life i think i will be voting lib dems this time as the candidate for Labour has been tried and tested and was a failure. As someone who lives in Nelson but works in the city of manchester, I agree with the comments about the state of the Town. This place had a thriving town centre and now its full of third world shops selling cheap and tack goods - the people of Nelson deserve better quality of shops and quality of Life than this. Although not politically inclined, the thing I have decided is that the Liberals have had their moment and maybe someone new needs to be given a chance. As for this Headteacher standing in Bradley, does he live in the locality and does he know what the local issues are? I think its important ot elect someone who is competent but also aware of the local social and economic needs.
