THE first arts and crafts exhibition staged in Haslingden, back in 1965, was said to have exceeded all hopes in the quality and quantity of entries'.
High spot of the exhibition was a display of more than 200 dolls.
Dressed in a variety of costumes, they were the collections of Mary Roberts, Margaret Hunt, and Margaret Pollard.
Mrs Roberts specialised in making her own dolls and sent one to the Queen, which was put on show in Windsor Castle.
In the model section, the work of Mr A Fenton took pride of place. He had made perfect scale models of Haslingden Corporation transport buses from balsa wood.
Spending up to 90 hours on each bus, he traced the history of the town's buses from 1930 to 1965.
