Walk your way to good health

6:42pm Thursday 20th March 2008

A SERIES of 14 new walks have been marked out in parks across Hyndburn in a bid to improve the health of residents.

The scheme aims to encourage more people to become active while improving facilities in seven parks in the area.

Each walk has been marked out with coloured arrows, and are graded yellow, amber and red as a guide to the walk's difficultly and length.

A leaflet has been produced as a guide for each of the parks which will be distributed in libraries, tourist information and GP surgeries.

The walks can be found in Oak Hill Park, Bullough Park and Milnshaw Park, all Accrington, Haworth Park, Baxenden, Mercer Park and Memorial Park in Great Harwood and Cutwood Park, Rishton.

Fran Riley, community walking development officer with the PCT, said: "This is for people who might not normally go in the parks for leisure walking but who would benefit from a gentle stroll at their own pace."
