POLICE are investigating after a pedestrian was knocked down by a taxi on Bolton Road, Darwen, early on Saturday morning.

Police said that the male pedestrian, who has not been named, was under the influence of alcohol and stepped out into the road at just after 1am.

The taxi was unable to avoid the man who suffered a fractured skull, resulting in a small bleed on the brain.

He was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital but his condition was not known.

I hope the guy gets well soon, but that picture appears to be of Blackburn Road, Darwen (the George Hotel is on the left), not Bolton Road. I can see that and I have lived away from Darren for 25 years. For the information of reporters and subs at the LT, in Darwen the main road (A666) is called Blackburn Road from the top of Craven’s Brow (the Blackburn boundary), then Duckworth Street from the junction with Dove Lane, Market Street from the junction with Union Street and Bolton Road from the Circus south.

Strange, no mention of the taxi driver, all about the pedestrian having had a drink.

Not pointing fingers, but you don't see many taxi's at 1am on Saturday morning sticking to the limits at peak fare time....

Hope the guy recovers...

Yes - Bloody taxi drivers have their own hyway code. A good motorist can almost always practice 'antisipation' of what is going on around them, but travelling at excessive speed, rushing around, will always lesson the chances of avoiding acidents like this. It was a taxi which was involved in a fatal hit and run in Church, Accrington a couple of years ago too, so these are not isolated incidents! Slow Down!!!
