A MAN who sank his teeth into his girlfriend because she was said to have kissed someone else, was spared jail.
Martin Lee Huggon, 22, had called Amy Fitton a slag before threatening to kill her, putting her onto the floor and sitting on her. He then pushed her head into the carpet and bit her lips for about 10 seconds.
Huggon, who later told police he had been jealous and he couldn't handle his drink, admitted common assault. The defendant, of Oxford Street, Burnley, was given a 12 month community order with 12 months supervision and must pay £150 compensation and £65 costs.
Sophie Lorimer, prosecuting, told the court Miss Fitton had been in a relationship with the defendant for about two years and there had been previous incidents of violence.
She was out with friends when she got a call from Huggon asking her to meet him at a pub. He appeared drunk but in a good mood and they went to his flat. Huggon started being abusive towards her and bit her lips, leaving her in tears.
Huggon was arrested and told officers he had wanted an argument with the victim and brought up the fact she had kissed another man a few weeks before. Huggon said he was sorry and felt he needed counselling to control anger.
Dylan Bradshaw, defending, said the offence was a one-off . Miss Fitton had done nothing to justify such behaviour.
He said: "The defendant cannot explain why he acted in that way. He is deeply ashamed and has shown remorse."
