A 21-YEAR-OLD man found lying on a grass verge with back and head injuries is making a good recovery.
The man was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital and doctors stitched up a large back wound after he was found close to Rakes Bridge, Lower Darwen, around 6.30pm on Tuesday.
Police believe his injuries are consistent with being hit by a car, rather than having been attacked.
Officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward, and for anyone who may have witnessed someone examining their car near the scene to get in touch. Police said the man remembers walking along Stopes Brow towards Fore Street, after visiting family at Shadsworth.
He then walked past the Hindle Arms, at the bottom of Stopes Brow, but has no memory of what happened after that.
Sgt Pete Sculpher, from the Eastern Division Road Policing Unit, said: "We have got to keep our options open. It is quite possible he has received the injuries as a result of a fail-to-stop accident."
The man is described as white, around 5ft 11ins tall and slim, with short, dark brown hair. He was wearing a dark blue zip- up tracksuit top and blue denim jeans.
