Family flee fire

A COUPLE and their baby escaped from a house fire in Cravens Heath, Lower Darwen, after being alerted to the blaze by their smoke alarm.
An electrical fault in a printer, kept in an upstairs bedroom, is thought to have started the fire around 4.50am yesterday.
Two fire engines went to the scene and crews entered the house wearing breathing apparatus. The room was severely damaged by fire, and three other rooms were smoke damaged.
Watch manager Tony Hartley said: "This was quite a serious fire and it shows the importance of having a smoke alarm.
"They are intended to keep you safe when you are asleep and at your most vulnerable."
