UPDATE: This incident has now been stood down
Crews have been tackling a 280-tonne waste fire at a recycling centre through the night.
Six crews from Darwen, Blackburn, Bamber Bridge and Hyndburn were called to the centre on Lower Eccleshill Road, Darwen, since about 12.20am.
A further two fire engines attended the incident overnight taking the total to eight at the peak of the fire.
Five fire engines remain at this incident excavating the contents of the building, approximately 280 tonnes of waste, and damping down.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: “Six fire engines from Darwen, Blackburn, Hyndburn and Bamber Bridge are in attendance a fire at a waste recycling centre on Lower Eccleshill Road in Darwen.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using two jets, one hose reel and two ventilation units to bring the fire under control."
