A police car was smashed up and had to be taken off the road while officers were dealing with an incident in which two men were found dead in a house.

The vehicle was damaged on Friday afternooon while police were investigating the deaths, at a house in Meeting House Lane in Lancaster. 

According to reports, officers were called by the ambulance service to a property on the road and discovered two men, one in his 30s and one in his 40s, dead inside the house.

The police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths and their enquiries remain ongoing. 

A spokesperson for the police said: "The deaths of two men in Lancaster are not being treated as suspicious.

"We were called by the ambulance service to an address on Meeting House Lane at around 2.55pm on Friday.

"Two men, one aged in his 30s and one is his 40s, were sadly found dead inside the address.

"Following enquiries the deaths are not being treated as suspicious and a file has been passed to the coroner."

Speaking about the damage to the car, a police spokesperson said: "This mindless act has resulted in a needed resource being off the road.

"Fortunately a member of the public reported the incident and a detailed description enabled a suspect to be arrested

"We ask that further witnesses come forward and contact Lancs Police on 101 and quote log number 1305 of November 13."

On Saturday evening, officers charged John Woof from Lancaster with criminal damage in relation to the damage to the police car.

He has been remanded to appear at court on Monday morning.
