A MOTORIST was given a penalty notice for leaving his vehicle in the "wrong part" of a shared car park for just one minute.

Now Trevor Harrison is warning others not to fall foul of the attendant who issued him with an £80 ticket, as he bought cans of cola for his son at the Farm Foods shop, off King Street, Blackburn.

The store shares a car park with the now-empty DR Furniture Express building, and signs warn that drivers can be ticketed or clamped for parking in bays to the left, previously used by its customers.

A spokesman for National Clamps, Preston, which issued the ticket for parking without a valid permit said: "The only thing they can do is appeal and put it in writing."

However, national fine-buster Neil Herron, who has got hundreds of parking tickets quashed across the country said the ticket was not valid as there was no clear boundaries showing where people should park.

He added: "He should refuse to pay this and if he needs any help he should contact me."

Mr Harrison, 46, said he popped into Farm Foods at 3.20pm on Monday, to buy 24 cans of cola costing £5 for his son Brecon, 16, a pupil at Our Lady and St John Specialist Art College.

However, the lorry driver of Aintree Drive, Lower Darwen, parked in the area of the car park where customers to the former DP Furniture Express store parked.

Mr Harrison said he returned at 3.21pm to find a £80 ticket on his vehicle.

He said: "I was in Farm Foods for literally one minute It's outrageous."

Mr Harrison, who works for East Lancashire Warehousing Darwen, said he has now appealed.

The British Parking Association promotes fair parking and has more than 640 members.

A spokesman for the organisation said: "Legally they have done nothing wrong because it is private land and they have put signs up.

"Even if it was just for one minute they have done what they said they could do if people parked in the wrong area."
