A MAN who is awaiting life-saving surgery after three heart attacks has been left devastated after thieves targeted his garden.

And Brendan Devlin, who said the incidetns had affected his health, has called on police to do more to catch the offenders, who he said are plaguing him and other residents.

Mr Devlin, a diabetic who also suffers from angina, said thieves stole a bird table and wishing well from his garden in Rothesay Road, Shadsworth, Blackburn on Tuesday night.

The 59-year-old also believed vandals tried to steal a tree in a planter from his garden a few days earlier.

Mr Devlin, who needs a full-time carer, said he bought the ornaments from the charity Prosperity Recycling, Accrington, several weeks ago.

He said: "I bought them because it was for charity and so the garden was a little bit nicer.

"Apparently some of the other neighbours have had things stolen too.

"I have contacted the police about things in the past but they just don't seem interested.

"You only see a couple of PCSO (police community support officers) once in a blue moon.

"I cannot believe somebody has stolen them, the people who have done it are the lowest of the low.

"I am on the waiting list for surgery and this is stressing me out and making my health worse."

Mr Devlin, is a former holiday entertainer who has worked in Spain and Tenerife.

He said his health began to deteriorate following the death of his wife, Susan, who died from bone cancer, aged 48, five years ago.

Mr Devlin, moved to Shadsworth from Leven Grove, Darwen, in April weeks after suffering his latest heart attack.

Linda Taylor, 52, Mr Devlin's carer added: "It is a big area so someone must have seen something.

"If these people had a conscience they would return them."

A police spokesman confirmed the theft had been reported and appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact officers on 0845 1 535 45.
