A HIGH Court challenge is being launched in a bid to overturn the decision to end investigations into a defence giant's dealings with Saudi Arabia.

Corner House Research was today due to demand a judicial review into the Serious Fraud Office's decision to stop the probe into arms dealings between BAE Systems and Saudi officials.

An investigation was launched into whether BAE gave money to dignitaries in return for the £43billion Al-Yamamah arms deal which saw military equipment including Tornado and Hawk jets sent to Saudi Arabia.

The inquiry was stopped in December after it was announced the 30-month investigation was threatening national security.

In September a £4billiion contract was signed for Saudi Arabia to buy 72 Eurofighter Typhoon jets, parts of which are made at BAE's plant in Samlesbury, which employs about 5,000 people.

Corner House is a group that campaigns for enforcement of the law in overseas corruption offences.
