CREWS were called to Mellor Brook after the trailer of an articulated lorry caught fire.

Two crews from Blackburn were called to the incident involving 40 tonnes of household waste in Myerscough Smithy Road at 7.20pm on Christmas Eve.

Nobody was injured and the cause of the fire is being investigated.

A fire service spokesman said: "Two fire engines and crews from Blackburn were assigned to a fire involving 40 tonnes of household waste on an articulated lorry trailer.

" Firefighters used a hosereel jet to extinguish the fire, the cause of which is to be established. There were no casualties."
