Mosque leaders’ anger at ‘hardcore’ claims

MOSQUES across Blackburn have reacted with outrage to allegations that their school of Islam is extremist'.

In a report yesterday, The Times cited the teachings of controversial cleric Riyadh ul Haq, who belongs to a Bury seminary, as proof that the 'hardcore' Deobandi version of Islam has begun to dominate mosques, particularly in towns like Blackburn and Burnley.

The majority of mosques in Blackburn are Deobandi but Coun Salim Mulla, senior vice-chairman of Lancashire Council of Mosques, said there was deep anger over the claims.

Coun Mulla said: "In the few hours since this came to light there has been outrage and anger in the Muslim community.

"Personally I am very angry because the Deobandi school of Islam is one of the more moderate schools and I do not recognise this description of it.

"Deobandi is just like the Roman Catholic church, the Church of England and Methodism in Christianity. It is one of the schools of thought," he said.

Mosques across East Lancashire are run under the Deobandi school of thought, with the majority in the Blackburn area.

Officials from the council of mosques have called an emergency meeting over the coverage.

Ibrahim Master, chairman of the Discover Mosques group, said Muslims in Blackburn had been involved in organising a mosque open day last month which was attended by more than 700 followers of all faiths.

An estimated 600 of Britain's 1,350 mosques are now said to be run by the Deobandi school, with their main influence extending across northern England and the Midlands.

It would appear, after recent events, that one cannot comment about anything this race does without causing 'offence'. one wonders when the next session of beheadings and embassy bombing will occur to 'quench' their anger??oh, i do apologize for sounding 'extreme'. wouldnt want to cause more anger, would we?!

Except of course the Taleban belong to the Deobandi. A Muslim spokesman responds to a fair accusation with typical deception. The usual scenario of highlighting extremism, but then being told that either the extremism does not exist or condemning the reporter and not the matter reported on.

i am a muslim living in blackburn i go 2 mosque 5 times a day and i have been to every mosque in blackburn and i havnt seen no terorist stuff going on. i think he police/government and who ever not should get people working undercover in mosques in and out of blackburn and i can guarantee you that you wont find anything but religious teachings and no extremist terrorist bullshit. these terrorists are low lifes. they dont know the true meaning of islam. i along with alot of muslims are against terrorism. and i seirously think that they should have a look and find some good concrete evidence then go around saying that kids are being taught all kinds of terrorism bullshit.

Good for you ak, problem is the terrorists and their supporters do follow certain Islamic teachings. If not why else would a convicted terrorist like Abu Hamza also be a cleric? I am willing to believe you that you do not go to such a mosque however, shame others do.

From Mrs. Mariam Kohne.
As salam Alaikum ! ! !

I am Mrs.Mariam Kohne from Liberia, I am married to Mr.Jean Kohne who worked with our Liberian Embassy here in Ivory Coast for nine years before he died in the year 2004. We were married for eleven years without a child. He died after a brief illness that lasted for only four days.

When my late husband was alive he deposited the sum of $3.8 Million General Trust Account with a prime bank in Abidjan Cote d'Ivoire. Presently, this money is still with the bank.Recently, My Doctor told me that I would not last for the next Eight months due to my cancer problem. Having known my condition (cancer of the lever and stroke).

I decided to donate this fund to an Imam or any faithful Islamic brother or sister that will utilize this fund the way I am going to instruct herein. I want somebody that will use this fund according to my Late.Husbands Dream to help the orphanages, widows, propagating the good news of Allah and to endeavor that the Mosque of Allah is maintained and to help lessprivillaged people in our Islamic World. The Quoran made us to know that Blessed is the hand that giveth. I took this decision because I don't have any child that will inherit this money and my husband relatives are not Muslim's and I don't want my husband's efforts to be used against his will. I don't want in away where this money will be used in an ungodly way. This is why I am taking this decision to hand you over this Fund. I am not afraid of death hence I know where I am going. I know that I am going to be in the hand of Allah, because he says in the Holy Quoran that he is going to fight my battle and I shall hold my peace.

I don't need any telephone communication in this regards because of my health hence the presence of my husband relatives around me always.I want you and the Mosque to always pray for me.My happiness is that I lived a life of a worthy Muslim Mom. Whoever that Wants to serve Allah must serve him in spirit and Truth. Please always be prayerful allthrough your life.
Write back as soon as possible, Any delay in your reply will give me room in sourcing another person for this same purpose. Please assure me that you will act accordingly as I Stated herein.
Hoping to receive your Urgent and Positive reponse.
Yours Sister in Islam.
