NEXT week is the last chance for residents to have their say on newly-proposed housing development sites, a council has warned.

Plans to amend the Ribble Valley’s housing and economic development plan were put forward by the council in July and have prompted a significant backlash from residents in the borough.

The plans outline the intention to build on three sites which were not originally earmarked for development in Clitheroe, Langho and Simonstone, where land could be used to build up to 180 new homes.

The Clitheroe Residents' Action Group has also acted by setting up a petition which has garnered almost 150 signatures.

A spokesman for the group said: “This petition is a way of objecting to the continued over-development of Clitheroe by the council.”

But the council argues that it was recently concluded there was a shortfall in the housing land availability in the area, pushing the need to put forward amendments to the development plan.

It is also understood that under new housing rules announced by the government, the council will be able to resist inappropriate developments.

Residents have the opportunity to have their say on the revised plan by e-mailing pmods22@ribblevalley.gov.uk before September 7.
