A DARWEN man has hit out at an tour operator after a holiday from hell.

Danial Ward wanted to live out a lifelong dream for his step-dad Stephen Nightingale of flying over the Atlantic Ocean when he booked a trip to the Dominican Republic for June 1, this year.

However, three days in the fortnight-trip, the 32-year-old spotted that lots of insects and bugs were getting into his room and biting him during the night.

Despite complaining to the reps from Tui and the hotel manager, it continued to affect their holiday as he was not able to walk without pain on his legs and suffered sleepless nights.

The pair were transferred to a different hotel but it still affected their break as he was no t able to go out. He was offered £90 compensation for the inconvenience.

He believes their offer was derisory and should have been dealt with better.

He said: “I saw the insects in my room and it made me feel sick and I said to the managers that there were some sort of bugs that were biting me.

“It was very painful and it affected both my legs.

“The holiday was completely ruined for both of us. We could not go sightseeing or on trips and I was in constant discomfort.

“I could not sleep and even now I am having problems sleeping because it is so uncomfortable.

“I have been to my doctor four times and had to take antibiotics and have my blood checked.

“When offered me £90 I contacted them and I was told by a manager that was all they were prepared to offer.

“I think £90 is poor considering how I tried to get their help out there by speaking to the reps and they did nothing for me. It was the manager of the hotel who offered me the chance to change.”

A spokesman for Tui said: “We are sorry to hear about Mr Ward’s experience on his recent holiday. We will be looking into the issues raised and following up with the hotel. We have been in direct contact with Mr Ward to discuss his issues in greater detail and have offered a gesture of goodwill which has been accepted.

“We’d like to reassure customers that we regularly audit all of the hotels we feature in respect of health and safety, including hygiene.”
